I did not get out much Sunday to see the nice migration, but luckily
it came to me here at my house. The best bird was a WINTER WREN
investigating a pile of old timbers in the remodeling wreckage across
the alley. I guess that was the closest thing to a fallen tree around
here. Mountain birds appearing in my yard were Lazuli Bunting, Western
Tanager, Bullock's Oriole, Grosbeak (sp. heard beginning of song, but
no visual), Swainson's Thrush, Green-Tailed Towhee, White Crowned
Sparrow, one Brewer's, scads of Chipping and Clay Colored Sparrows
eating Dandelion fluff, Yellow Rumped, Yellow, Orange Crown Warblers,
Chimney Swift, and a weird house finch with blackish feathers on its
chest. The Wren would not materialize today and may have left. If I
see it again I will post it immediately. I have nesting Ravens across
the street and they alert me to any passing raptor and chase off other
Ravens as well.
The Northern Waterthrush is still at Sale Lake today along with a
Wilson's and a MacGillivray's Warbler amongst the Yellow Warblers on
the West side. David Waltman was there as well.
It seems as if you do not need to get out to see birds this spring,
I think they must be attracted to the House Finches and House Sparrows
that are my normal feeder fare.
