Though I didn't see any vagrants or other rarities today, it was really rocking. There were birds everywhere and they were all vocalizing. I birded several locations in and around Canon City including the Sell's Lake area of the Canon City Riverwalk, Florence Mtn Park and private properties--here are the highlights:
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron-1 adult at private wetland Green Heron-2 birds together, hopefully a pair American White Pelicans--about 120 still staging here on their way to Antero Res where they nest Forster's Tern-2 (very uncommon in this area) Great Horned Owl fledglings-2 "branchers"--still hopping on branches not flying yet Western Wood-Pewee--found along Arkansas River but in low numbers so far, but now singing Black Phoebe--1 at Florence Mtn Park along river Eastern Phoebe-at least 3 including one at CC Riverwalk yesterday Swainson's Thrush--CC Riverwalk (thrushes are uncommon in this area) Gray Catbirds--saw 6-7 on CC Riverwalk where they are becoming quite common Curve-billed Thrasher--3 nestlings in cactus nest on my friends property Tennesse Warbler-1 on CC Riverwalk Yellow Warblers--abundant everywhere near the Arkansas River Yellow-rumped Warblers--many along Arkansas River MacGillivray's Warbler-1 on CC Riverwalk Common Yellowthroat-many along Arkansas River Yellow-breasted Chats--increasing numbers along Arkansas River Wilson's Warbler--saw FOS Wilson's on CC Riverwalk Western Tanagers--dozens on CC Riverwalk Lincoln's Sparrow-1 on CC Riverwalk Black-headed Grosbeak and Bullock's Orioles are here in good numbers while buntings just arriving SeEtta Moss Canon City http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Join us at the 2009 Convention in Alamosa: http://cfo-link.org/convention/index.php You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
