Cobirders,
I went to the new wetlands area south of the park road between 6:00 and
7:15 this morning. The bad news: no least tern or white-rumped
sandipiper. The good news is that this new area is progressing much
faster than we could have expected. The meandering creek creates
mudflats sorely missing in Cherry Creek since the Beaver Pond area
became choked with cattails. It appears avocets are nesting there, and
snowy egrets and white-faced ibis seem to be hanging around. Succeeding
years should show improvement as the native grasses planted attract
native insects.
