On Sunday I drove back up to Salida, birding along the way. Not
unexpectedly I did not refind the apparent Savannah Sparrow or the Eastern
Meadowlark I have posted on this past week. The field where I had seen the
sparrow had a row mowed around it. I did hear an Eastern Meadowlark song
once as well as several Western Meadowlark songs from fields adjacent to
where I found the bird.

On my way there I looked for American Dippers in several locations and found
2 still nesting, one near Coaldale (little town west of Canon City) and the
other nesting under the F Street Bridge in Salida. I got photos of these I
think some will find interesting including photos that show nestlings
peeking out from the nest hole. They are posted on my blog at
www.BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com

I did not refind the Black Phoebe reported near the F Street bridge in
Salida but it was very busy on Sunday with lots of kayakers paddling in the
built "playholes" on both sides of the bridge and lots of people on both
sides and on top of bridge. I will post about other birds later when it's
not so late.
