I saw a gorgeous alternate plumage Common Loon at Marston Reservoir 7/11,
saturday. This is Denver county. What's with the Loons at Marston this summer?

Now there was a different molting, plumage bird at Marston. It looked sizewise
like a Red-throated loon, with alot of white on the flanks. The bill was small
and turned up slightly. The bird had so much light brownish coloration
interspersed with alot of white streaking and white PATCHES. The sides of the
head were white, with the nape being light brown. I could not deffinately tell
for sure what this bird was. I'm thinking Red-throated Loon, but I have never
seen one, this time of year, with this wacky looking plumage.

Both birds were seen from Bow Mar Dr. I'd appreciate any other opinions on this
strange looking bird. I leave right now for Fraser, and won't be back until
monday. I hope the bird stays around. I am guessing the rain last evening may
have brought these birds down to the lake.

Happy Birding!
