Participating in the Breeding Bird Atlas project has made me more attuned to
the breeding behavior of birds, in line with this, yesterday along the new bike
path in Silverthorne, I came across both a pair of American Dippers and Cliff
Swallows with nests.

Today, while hiking to the summit of Bald Mountain, I had breeding
confirmations for Ruby-crowned Kinglet, American Pipit and White-crowned
Sparrows.  There were also several very active Horned Larks which I suspect are
breeding there  but did not have the time to confirm as the purpose of the trip
was primarily hiking--also a contributing factor to the low species count.
Following is my eBird submission:

Location:     Summit County
Observation date:     7/13/09

Notes:     Hiked to the summit of Bald Mountain a.k.a. "Baldy" on the edge of
Summit County.  Low species count but the purpose of the trip was hiking and
the weather turned bad so did not "chase" any birds.  3 species COnfirmed
breeding by CF (carrying food).   5+ Pikas
Number of species:     11

Northern Flicker (Red-shafted)     1
Olive-sided Flycatcher     1
Common Raven     1
Horned Lark     3     very active, around 12,000'; above Black Powder Pass
Ruby-crowned Kinglet     2     COnfirmed; CF (carrying food)
Townsend's Solitaire     2     very high up, over 13,000', not a tree in sight;
the birds appeared to be a pair as they were with each other.
Hermit Thrush (Western mountains)     1
American Robin     3
American Pipit     5     probably a conservative count but focus was on hiking.
 COnfirmed CF (carrying food)
Wilson's Warbler     1
White-crowned Sparrow (Mountain)     8      COnfirmed CF (carrying food)
