Baca County: --A singing male Indigo Bunting, and a Chihuahuan Raven family were reported by Leatherman at Carrizo Creek Picnic Area on July 10. --A White-winged Dove was heard by Leatherman along the cliffs north of main parking area at Two Buttes on July 9. Boulder County: --Dunning reported that the male SCARLET TANAGER has returned to Gregory Canyon on May 28. It was seen on the Gregory Canyon Trail in Boulder about 100 yards further uphill from pole #50. On July 11, Peterson reported that the SCARLET TANAGER was still in the upper canyon. --A singing KENTUCKY WARBLER was reported by Andes-Georges in the Gregory Canyon Parking Lot on June 5. On the morning of June 26, De Fonso found the KENTUCKY WARBLER near the parking lot and then up the Amphitheater Trail accompanied by a Hooded Warbler. Waltman reported that the KENTUCKY WARBLER was seen and heard by a few birders on July 13. --A possible Northern Parula was heard singing on the Gregory Canyon Trail by Peterson on July 11. --2 - 3 Green Herons were seen by the BBC First Sunday Birders led by Waltman at Walden Ponds on July 7. They observed one juvenile Green Heron perched high in a tree. --A female American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Dunning in Wild Basin beyond Calypso Cascade on July 9. Wild Basin is in Rocky Mountain National Park. Delta County: --Purple Martins were reported by Garrison in ne Delta County on FR 265 and FR 701 on July 4. --A Fox Sparrow was reported by Garrison at the lower intersection of FR 701 with Dyke Creek in Willows on July 12. Denver County: --A breeding plumaged Common Loon and possible RED-THROATED LOON were reported by Tina Jones on Marston Reservoir on July 11. They could be seen from Bow Mar Drive. Douglas County: --A BLACK VULTURE was discovered by Metz and seen by Walbek in Castlewood Canyon State Park on July 3 around 10:30 am. It was seen south of the Homestead Parking Area. Pieplow reported that the BLACK VULTURE was seen on July 12 at about 9:55 am from the Homestead Parking Area. --A male Rose-breasted Grosbeak was reported by Teuton near the Homestead Parking Area at Castlewood Canyon State Park on July 5. Garfield County: --Purple Martins and American Three-toed Woodpecker were reported by McConnell at Center Mountain on July 11. Center Mountain is SW of Glenwood Springs. Larimer County: --A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by Rowe on the Cub Lake Trail -- right at the lake itself in Rocky Mountain National Park on July 10. Logan County: --A male Northern Cardinal was reported by Dunning at Tamarack Ranch SWA on July 12. Mesa County: --Purple Martins were reported by Garrison along Buzzard Creek on July 12. Prowers County: --A Red-bellied Woodpecker was heard by Leatherman at the south end of Lamar Community College Woods on July 12. Summit County: --Nesting American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Nims in the Willow Creek Block on July 7. The DFO Field Trip for Thursday, July 15 will be to Cherry Creek State Park led by Mary Keithler (303-771-1421). Meet at the Marina at 0730. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, water and snacke for half-day trip. State Parks pass needed. The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, July 18, will be to Golden Gate Canyon State Park led by Paula Hansley (720-890-2628). Meet at 0730 at the NW corner of the Parn 'n Ride lot at I_70 and Ward Road for carpoolling. 1/2 day trip, bring Parks Pass. Lunch Optional. Picnic tables available. The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, July 19 will be to Brainard Lake, Fawnbrook Inn, and South St. Vrain area led by Joanna Chan and Chishun Kwong (720-304-2073). Meet at 0649 at Park 'n Ride at the Superior/Louisville exit of Boulder Turnpike (McCaslin Blvd) on the north side near Colonial Theater. Carpooling important. Limit 3 cars and 14 people plus leaders and their car. Trip will include a moderate, high=altitude hike at the lake, followed by feeder watching at the Inn, and hummingbird banding at the Bouricius home in S St. Vrain Canyon.
