I hate to sound like a broken record, but I wanted to pass along that
the Least Bittern was seen again this morning at Cottonwood Hollow,
this time by Roger Linfield and myself around 7am this morning. Roger
spotted it initially flying from south to north across the pond, and I
managed to see that it flew somewhere into the east side of the pond
north of the spit and just a couple stone's throws from Prospect Rd.

We looked for it along that east side for the next 15-20 minutes to no
avail, before Roger had to leave for work. I was still determined
though to find it, because I really really wanted to get good looks at
this species that I had never seen well before. I went back to the
spit and scanned a while more, and eventually found the bird posed
rather cryptically in the same general area mentioned by Rachel Hopper
in her note about a week ago, up fairly high in a willow tree near the
water. I got the scope on it and got really killer looks at the bird.
I agree entirely with Roger (who noted the plumage contrast in flight)
and Rachel who called this bird an adult male, and completely disagree
with myself from 2 days ago, when I said I didn't see much contrast in
the plumage when the bird was in flight. Then again, maybe there's 2
Least Bitterns in the pond....
