Bent County: --A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported by Percival at John Martin Reservoir on the NW side on July 25. Boswell relocated the cormorant on July 26. --A LEAST BITTERN was reported by Percival at Fort Lyon SWA on July 25. The bittern was seen again on July 26 by Boswell. --An adult Laughing Gull was reported by Percival at Adobe Creek Reservoir on July 25. Delta County: --A COMMON BLACK-HAWK was reported by Beason about 1/2 mile SW of Hotchkiss on July 29. Denver County: --A breeding plumaged Common Loon and imm RED-THROATED LOON were reported by Tina Jones on Marston Reservoir on July 11. On July 27, Drummond refound the RED-THROATED LOON and Common Loon. Fremont County: --A family of 4-5 Black-throated Sparrows was reported by Moss south of Canon City on July 25. Moss refound the family on July 27 but several hundred yards away from where she initially found them. The area is on private property adjacent to CR 79 south of Canon City so observe the birds from the road. CR 79 can be accessed from CR 11-A which intersects H115 east of Canon City. The birds are usually in a gulch about 50 ft north of CR 79. Fremont County: --A Winter Wren was reported by Deininger on the Nevadaville Road on July 28. Nevadaville is SW of Central City and Blackhawk. Gunnison County: --2 ALDER FLYCATCHERS were reported by O'Brien along US 50 east of Gunnison on July 22. Filby relocated the flycatchers on July 25. The spot is along Tomichi Creek 1.2 miles W of where Rd 44 heads N and 3 miles W of the turnoff to Wuanita Hot Springs lek. --Purple Martins were reported by Filby on Keebler Pass at mile marker 10 on July 25. --An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Filby on Keebler Pass at the summit on July 25. Larimer County: --A LEAST BITTERN and Green Heron were reported by Komar at Cottonwood Hollow Pond east of Fort Collins on July 20. Ceci Lee relocated the LEAST BITTERN and Green Heron at Cottonwood Hollow on July 29. --Am American Three-Toed Woodpecker was reported by Kwong in Rocky Mountain National Park at Upper Beaver Meadows close to the trail about 300 feet from the parking lot. Mesa County: --Purple Martins were reported by Korte N of Collbran on July 27. Montezuma County: --2 Sandhill Cranes were reported by Meyer in field west of CR 39 between CR H & G, south of Mancos on July 26. Beatty refound the cranes on July 27. Yuma County: --2 Northern Cardinals and a pair of Indigo Buntings were reported by Ceci Lee at Bonny Reservoir on July 19. On July 20, Wild reported 1 Great Crested Flycatcher, 1 Indigo Bunting and 4 Red-bellied Woodpeckers at Bonny Reservoir. The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, August 1 will be to Dawson Butte Ranch Open Space led by Doris Cruze (303-798-8072). Meet the leader at 0700 at McDonald's at Castle Rock. It is on the west side of I-25 just as you come into Castle Rock. Bring sunscreen, water and insect repellent for a half day trip. You will be hiking on some of the five miles of newly opened trail in this new 828 property located near Tomah Road. The DFO Field trip for Sunday, August 2, will be the Rocky Mountain National Park led by Ed Holub (303-979-2194). Meet the leader at 0800 at the Nature Center, east of Beaver Meadows entrace on US 36. This will be an all day trip so bring lunch and extra water. Trip will probably finish about 3:15 or 3:30. The entrance fee is $20/car so carpooling is encouraged. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science will present a Curator Lunchtime Lecture on Wednesday, August 5, at 12:15 pm in Ricketson Auditorium, free with Museum admission. Jude Southward, Bridget Sabo, John Demboski, Jeff Stephenson, and Aaron Spriggs will talk about "Building a Better Birdhouse: A New Home for Taxidermy Mounts".
