Yesterday I found a new family of Black Phoebes east of the MacKenzie
Bridge over the Arkansas River on the east edge of Canon City. It was clear
from the short length of their tails and their very yellow gapes that they
were quite young. They were much closer to the bridge today and I counted a
total of 4 birds, at least 2 being fledglings being fed by an adult. The
fledglings were flying across the river today so they are gaining better
flying skills which may mean the parent(s) moves them further away soon.
This is apparently the result of a second nesting in this area.
Interestingly, a juvenile from the first nesting has remained in the area
and I saw it yesterday also.

I found 2 more juvenile Eastern Phoebes in addition to the 2 at my friend's
(yes, different birds--after seeing them I drove directly to my friends and
refound the 2 there), one on private property along the Arkansas River and
another along the access road to the MacKenzie Ave parking area for the
Canon City Riverwalk (and accessed via MacKenzie Ave). Today I saw the
latter bird about midway down the access road from MacKenzie Ave to the
parking area.

Yesterday I also saw a family of Lewis Woodpeckers, the young practicing
their flying behavior, at my friend's east of Canon City. This species
nests on his property.

And the bat extravaganza continues at the fishing pond at Pathfinder Park
west of Florence and at a nearby quiet section of the Arkansas River. And I
finally got some reasonable pics of the bats that I have posted to my blog
