sponsored by  Denver Field Ornithologists and the Rocky Mountain    
Bird Observatory.

LESSER NIGHTHAWK (Montrose)

Northern Cardinal (Pueblo)

Alamosa County:
--A juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported by Komar about 10  
miles south of Alamosa at a wet culvert crossing underneath Rd S 112 a  
few miles north of the Conejos County line on August 6.

Boulder County:
--A KENTUCKY WARBLER was redound on the DFO fied trip to Gregory  
Canyon.    The bird was seen near the parking area on August  16.
--2 American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Miller on the  
Mount Audubon trail on August 9.
--2 Green Herons were reported by Floyd at Walden Ponds on August 14.

Gunnison County:
--An ALDER FLYCATCHER first reported by O'Brien on July 23 was refound  
by  Kaempfer on August 9 along US 50 mile 172.9 about 1.2 miles West  
of the junction CR44, and 3 miles west of the junction with Waunita  
Hot Springs road.

Hinsdale County:
--A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by Zerbi at  
the Middle Creek Trail on August 10.

Larimer County:
--A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported by Komar in a small pond near  
Timnath Reservoir between County Roads 76 and 78 on August 14.  The  
bird was observed in the same location on August 15, but it spent most  
of the day at Timnath Reservoir.
--Several American Three-toed Woodpeckers were reported by Dunning at  
The  Blue Lake Trail near Cameron Pass on August 8.
--A pair of American  Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by Dunning  
at the  Chapin Pass Trailhead in RMNP pn August 11.

Montrose County:
--A LESSER NIGHTHAWK (male) was  reported by Dexter at the Nucla Sewer  
Ponds on August 8.

Pueblo County:
--A male Northern Cardinal was reported by Chartier on Rt 96 west of  
Pueblo Blvd near the sign for Stonemoor Hills on August 14.

Routt County:
--Several  Barrow's Goldeneye were reported by Moulton at the Flattops  
Winderness Lakes on August11.


The DFO trip for Saturday, August 22 isvto Parker Regional Park and  
Castlewood Canyon, led by Sue  Shulman, 303-773-3540. Meet leader at  
07:00 at the Nature Center at Parker Regional Park. From Main St.  
intersection in Parker, go south on Parker Rd. (CO 83) for 1.2 miles.  
Turn right on Indian Pipe Lane to parking lot on right. Bring lunch  
and plenty of drinking water. After looking for fall migrants, group  
will go to Castlewood Canyon to check out what is there. Let’s see if  
this year will be as good as or better than last year’s migration!

The DFO trip for Sunday, August 23 is to Rigli Ranch, led by Joe  
Rigli, 970-768-7121. Meet leader at ranch by 0830. From Hudson, go  
east on CO 52 until it turns north. Don’t turn north, but continue  
east on Morgan County road F to CR 14,then turn north for  
approximately one mile to first house on left by boxcars. Bring lunch  
and extra water.

Everyone is invited to come out on Saturday, August 29th, to the Old  
Stone House at the north end of Barr Lake, Adams County. Rocky  
Mountain Bird Observatory is having thier annualo Barbecue and much  
more - bird walks, an auction, educational seminars, children's events  
and a keynote address by Bill Schmoker!
