Though I have birded in many areas of eastern Fremont Co and some in Pueblo in the past week, I have still only seen 2 Western Kingbirds; however, I have seen a few more Cassin's Kingbirds including one adult being chased by two young one of which appeared to be pretty young--they were adjacent to a ditch in an agricultural area, unusual for this species that I usually find in dryer upland locations. There are still a number of juvenile Barn Swallows around that are begging for food and at least one set of parents that is still on a nest.
On the other end, I am still seeing several Western Tanager females and immatures whenever I am riparian forests. Also in that habitat I have seen several Yellow Warbler males (got a great pic of one as it foraged) that appear to be moving through, a switch from the females/immatures I was seeing for the previous several weeks. Yesterday I saw one or two empids I that appeared to be Traill's Flycatcher(s) on my friend's property foraging adjacent to a ditch. I saw Eastern/Black/hybrid Phoebes in several locations adjacent to the Arkansas River yesterday. An Black Phoebe (both in plumage and vocalization) was on the MacKenzie end of the Arkansas River with either an Eastern or hybrid Black-Eastern in the same location--these phoebes are either engaged in post-breeding dispersal or the beginnings of migration. Not far from the phoebes was a migrating Ash-throated Flycatcher. Three Black Phoebes foraged along the river east of the MacKenzie Ave bridge, at least one was in juvenal plumage and one in adult plumage--apparently the same family that I have seen in that location for the past several weeks. On my friend's property I saw juvenile Black Phoebe and two likely Eastern Phoebes (probably juveniles but not cooperative). I found a pair of Chihuahuan Ravens together on MacKenzie Ave just south of H50. This is likely the same pair I have seen off and on this summer but I could never get good enough looks to confirm id (and they were silent). I got good pics of them and will have these pics and some of above birds on my blog at http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com by tomorrow.
