All,

My wife and I had great success on the Blue Lake Trail in Larimer
County this morning (7:00 a.m.) - we found four three-toed woodpeckers
about 1 - 1.25 miles along the Blue Lake Trail. Thanks for the great
post - this was a really good spot as we'd tried several places
without success!

The birds were foraging in pine beetle-killed trees - amazing how
large the pieces of bark they flake off are. One adult was actually
feeding a young one.

For the mammal watchers, we saw 3 moose between Gould and the base of
the climb east up Cameron Pass. Be very cautious - one ran across the
road right in front of us! A mother-child pair were in a meadow just
before the ascent.

One last note - if you go during the week, there is paving going on in
the Poudre Canyon (starts about 10 miles east of Cameron Pass) and the
delays seem long (we only waited about 20 minutes, though).

I highly recommend the Drifter's Cookhouse (Gould) for a meal and for
a place to stay - good food, nice people, and a fun pack of dogs (if
you like dogs!).
