Nick Komar, Sue Riffe and I hit a few good spots in Weld County today,
and found some interesting birds. At sunrise we birded at Lower Latham
Reservoir mostly from the east-side 'overlook' to search for terns,
and found the Common Terns and an Arctic Tern which may or may not
have been the same individual found by Cole Wild the day before, since
the bird we found was a younger bird (non-adult) while Cole's was an
adult. The bird was quite distant, seen on and around the reservoir
spillway and viewable only in high-power scopes, but the seeing was
excellent this morning with calm conditions and low overcast keeping
heat waves from developing until later in the morning.

Along WCR 40 in Beebe Draw, we encountered a group of about 30
juvenile White-faced Ibis, including one leucistic individual that had
a rather buffy neck and head.

Later, at Crow Valley campground, we searched in vain for some of the
interesting warblers seen the day before, although we did find one
female MacGillivray's Warbler. All the other warblers were Wilson's,
but in general breezy conditions and warming weather seemed to
conspire to keep overall bird numbers down. We did find a Field
Sparrow, and we had both Hammond's and Dusky Flycatchers, but the real
highlight was a possible ALDER FLYCATCHER, found near the campground
entrance near the bend in the paved road before it turns to gravel.
When I first saw it I immediately thought Traill's and photographed
it, and with Nick and Sue assisting, we were able to refind it and
take a few more helpful photos. I have these posted now on my Flickr
site and welcome constructive comments and thoughts:
