Thanks to Bill Kaempfer's report, I was motivated to drive up to Prewitt
Reservoir early this morning and quickly found the brownish first cycle
LAUGHING GULL he had seen yesterday with Todd Deininger. It was a Washington
county bird for me. Thanks!
I was excited to find another LAUGHING GULL, this one in first winter
plumage. It is not as conspicuous or distinctive as the brownish one, but I
was
lucky to study and photograph it as it loafed on the beach I was close to.
Both birds were near the (drowned) inlet canal on the west side of the
reservoir. There are lots of gulls in the area, hopefully enough to attract a
jaeger before the fall is over.
