HI COBirders,

Since the ranch was closed yesterday, and since there had been two
consecutive clear nights, I opened nets this morning to see if
anything new had shown up.
Well, yes, something new had arrived, but not from the direction
expected. At 12:30 I banded and released a Hatch -year (HY) PAINTED
BUNTING !

(I'll post photos soon, and forward the address)

This was the best morning since fall arrived last Monday, with good
diversity, lots of movement, although not huge numbers. Total 33
birds banded.

The other cool capture needs to be confirmed - but it was a banded
Wilson's Warbler that I suspect was recently banded at Barr Lake by
the sequence of band numbers.
That would be a first too!

New birds banded today:

FOS (duh) Painted Bunting (HY, not positive on sex - no "male" colors
- yellow and green, maybe a tinge of bluish in the wing)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 5
Wilson's Warbler - 2
Orange-crowned Warbler - 2
Cordilleran Flycatcher
MacGillivray's Warbler (f)
Lincoln's Sparrow - 3
Dark-eyed Junco (pink-sided) - 2
                                 (gray-headed) - 1
Hermit Thrush - 4
Townsend's Solitaire - 2
Song Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow - 3
Gray Catbird - 2
American Robin (prob local HY bird)
N Flicker (integrade, prob local HY bird)
Blue Jay (prob local HY bird)

This was a pretty exciting morning after all!
