Over the last month I have been observing the migrating ducks that
have been visiting the park. The resident mallards have been coming
into their breeding plumage and are beginning to corral the females
and fight each other. Three weeks ago, 5 American Widgeons turned up
and have been joined by another dozen, mostly males. There are now over
16 American Widgeons with most of them in eclipsed plumage and a few
in breeding plumage. A week ago, 9 Northern Shovelers in eclipse
plummage have shown up and today there were 5 male Gadwalls! The north
lake did not have any migrants on it.

The rough duck count on Wash Park's South lake is around:

30 Mallards
16+ American Widgeons
9 Northern Shovelers
5 Gadwalls

If it's not pouring rain, I will be on the South pond around 0800-0900
tomorrow to try and get a more precise count. Anyone is welcome to
join. It's supposed to be lovely weather.
