Hello all, I stopped briefly at Standley Lake in northern Jefferson County today. As the water was much warmer than the air, light conditions were quite hazy/foggy and I really could only identify birds on half the lake. No mega's, but a lot of birds inluding:
Aechmophorus grebes - over 2000 Common Loon - 1 Thayer's Gull - early. 1 in 4th cycle plumage (vastly adult except for some worn primaries and retained 3rd cycle secondaries) Barn Swallow - about 15 or so. And kajillions of coots and Gadwall, which is normal for Standley in October.
