Hi Cobirders. I watched the Nijer Thistle feeder about 3 PM. There
was a black-backed Lesser Goldfinch,
an American Goldfinch, a couple of sparrows when a small bird that
had lots of bright red was finding seed
from the feeder it came and went a couple times. I decided it had to
be a Vermillion Flycatcher with
such a bright red head and belly. I watched it for about 10 minutes
before it flew off in the Russian Olive
where the feeder is located. It was too cold for bugs. Wonder if
there are reports of it eating other things.
Its beak is very small so it could grab the tiny seeds. I had to
leave and didn't return until after dark.
Monday it did not show up. I checked the feeder and filled it with
more. If it returns I will post sooner
and leave my number.
