About 20 minutes ago I witnessed a pair of Lewis's Woodpeckers copulate on a
power pole near my house. It seems like a strange time of year for any
species to be displaying this type of behavior! Anyone else out there have
other similar experiences? It is quite nice weather-wise today - maybe they
were just feeling "frisky"!?!?

This summer a pair (the same?) successfully fledged four (probably four)
young in a big Fremont cottonwood in my yard. It has been a great year
watching and learning (and recording the sounds of!) this species right out
the front door. It seems that the North Fork valley provides important
habitat for this declining species.

Early spring of 2008 a Great Horned Owl pair successfully fledged 2 young in
the same tree. You could call it my lucky tree!
