This may only be of interest to buteophiles. Yesterday as I drove through
Pueblo West on H50 I spotted an interesting hawk. It meets most of
Wheeler's (in *Raptors of North America*) description for an intermediate
(rufous) morph "Western" subspecies (*B.j.calurus*) of the Red-tailed Hawk.
However, it has several characteristics of Harlan's (*B.j.harlani*)
subspecies including a narrow white supercilium. I think it is likely an
adult intermediate morph with intergrade traits of *calurus* and *harlani*.
I have posted several photos on my blog at
http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com with a discussion of field marks. I
certainly welcome feedback on this possible identification.
