Hello, Birders.
I visited several spots along the St. Vrain River, Boulder County, yesterday,
Sunday, Nov. 29th.
At first light, I birded along the river in Longmont, finding 2 Wood Ducks, 1
Northern Shrike, 1 Brown Creeper, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and 1 Audubon's
Warbler. The shrike was in a tree with these coordinates: 40.155202N,
105.092066W.
Mid-afternoon, Hannah and Andrew and I birded the headwaters of the St. Vrain,
up in Rocky Mountain National Park. Pretty quiet there, as expected for the
time of the year, but we did find at least 25 Type 2 Red Crossbills and a flock
of about 5 Type 3 Red Crossbills.
At sundown, we made a quick stop along the river in Lyons, where we found
typical fare for the location: Bald Eagle, Townsend's Solitaire, American
Dipper, and Canyon Wren. Andrew was skeptical of the wren. ("Not the bird! I
want to see the PERSON who lives up there and keeps saying beep, beep, beep!")
