I saw the White-winged Crossbills twice this morning for a total of about 15
seconds. At 8:15am they were with 3 Red Crossbills in the top of a spruce in
the extreme southeast corner. The quintet bombed off together to the northeast
almost instantly after I got onto them. About 9:30am the pair was chasing
around by themselves in the north-central part of the cemetery (Section E) but
I never saw them land. Several folks combed the whole cemetery until at least
noon with no further sightings that I heard about.

Of note, a Merlin (taiga race) perched for a time atop a spruce northwest of
the entrance, eventually flying off to the south toward the golf course. I
have seen a taiga Merlin on the golf course the last few winters and wonder if
this is the same individual.

For those wondering whether the doe mule deer accepted Buck's class ring, it
appears the answer is , "No". He was alone this morning.

Finally, Joe Mammoser and I saw a fox squirrel eating a yellow squash or gourd
that was just bigger than its head. The menu for fox squirrels approaches the
thickness of the NYC phone book.
