I returned to 63rd at St. Vrain Creek today about 1:00 p.m. Dave Cameron and
Deb were there and had seen the Winter Wren about 2 minutes before I got there.
After a few minutes, the bird returned to the west bank on the north side of
the bridge and later worked its way under the bridge and to the south. We got
plenty of good looks and I got fairly good photos over a period of about 1/2 an
hour. It's not a slam dunk for me to determine whether this bird is a western
or eastern. The bird sang and called, but I don't trust my memory and skills
enough to use the vocalizations to be sure about which race (species after the
split) this bird is. In a little while, I'll provide a link to photos and
provide some additional comments on why I'm puzzled about the ID. I welcome
comments.
I also had a light morph Harlan's Hawk at 75th and St. Vrain Road. Probably the
same bird that Christian Nunes reported a few weeks ago. There was an
intermediate or dark Harlan's near Hygiene Road and 61st.
