The following link has fair photos I took this afternoon of the Winter Wren at 63rd and St. Vrain Creek. I'd like comments from people with expertise on western vs. eastern Winter Wren. It's my understanding the split is a done deal but has not yet been formally announced, so being able to ID these two is of interest to lots of birders. I have these questions: Is the bird I photographed from the eastern population or western population (Western perhaps to be named Pacific Wren)? Or, is it impossible to tell, either because my photos aren't good enough, or because (like Western Flycatcher) you virtually can't tell except by vocalization? David Waltman Boulder
