Colorado Birders,

The total number of Barrow's Goldeneyes (BAGO) tallied for the count this
year was 163 at 16 sites. Many of the sites that have had large counts in
the past were not visited this year and it seems that some sites (i.e.,
Jerry Creek Reservoir in Mesa County), that usually have BAGO present, did
not this year. Also, some sites that have usually have large counts didn't
have as many BAGO present this year (i.e., Lake Avery in Rio Blanco
County). I don't know if it can be proved, but it does seem that the high
elevation lakes/reservoirs aren't freezing up as early as they have
historically. This definitely influences the count.
