Hello, Birders.

Yesterday afternoon, Friday, Dec. 11th, I saw and heard a probable Chihuahuan
Raven flying over Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County. I'm not certain, but it
sounded good for Chihuahuan, and then it looked good, size-wise,
proportion-wise, and wingflap-wise. Couldn't see the diagnostic bill-feathering
or white-based neck-feathers, though, so I'm not certain.

All the same, I think it will be good for folks to be on the lookout this
coming CBC season for supposedly out-of-range Chihuahuan Ravens, for example,
in the San Luis Valley and in the northern Front Range region. At the same
time, be careful and "conservative"! Ravens are fiendishly difficult. They make
gulls, empids, and even first-cycle female rosy-finches downright easy in
comparison. There is no shame in entering "raven sp." on your CBC form;
conversely, there is terrible, everlasting shame--a fire that is never
quenched--in writing down Chihuahuan Raven your the bird was, in fact, a Common.

So let's all be on the lookout for Chihuahuan Ravens, and let's all be careful.
