Stopped by the sewage ponds just north of Silverthorne around 4 PM
Tues., and found a nice assortment of ducks. In addition to the usual
Mallards, there were Green-winged Teal, mostly males, dabbling near
the shore. Further out there were many Goldeneye, both Common and at
least 2 pairs of Barrow's, also some immatures of which type I am not
sure; and there were several Ring-necked, both male and female.
I did not have a scope to see well all the way to the northern end of
the pond, but I suspect there were some other species out there, too.
All in all, a worthwhile spot to do some looking if you are up in the
mountains.
