The Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory is starting a new RMBO Naturalist program. As an RMBO Naturalist, you will be a key element in RMBO's education programs. Our programs help instill a conservation ethic in Colorado citizens of all ages by providing interactive learning experiences using birds as the "hook." Trainings will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Feb. 16 through March 30. These sessions include: * basic ecology and ornithology * teaching techniques, program structuring and public speaking tips * field trips to education sites * opportunities to practice the skills and information acquired You will also receive continuing education sessions throughout the year to update and expand your knowledge and skills. Benefits: * Enhance your knowledge of the natural world through initial training and continuing education opportunities * Gain a valuable and rewarding volunteer experience * Be part of a community that cares about the environment and inspires others to appreciate it Requirements: *Attend initial training program and at least two continuing education sessions * Commit to 40 volunteer hours as an RMBO Naturalist during the year * Ability to stand or walk for at least 2 hours at a time (please contact us for help in accommodating physical limitations) * Pass a background check * Ability to ensure the safety of program participants * Ability to get yourself to and from the education site * Punctuality and reliability * Willingness to follow provided schedule for each program * Ability to speak loudly over other environmental noises * Willingness to prepare, return and organize education materials as needed * Ability to adapt teaching techniques to many different audiences, weather situations and time constraints No experience is required to become an RMBO Naturalist.
