Hello, friends--

Annually I try to remind folks that a wildlife-friendly state option exists
that I personally think is worth the $10.

The annual habitat stamp can be purchased here (site below), or at
McGuckins' or other field&stream type stores. But I think online is pretty
simple.

https://www4.wildlifelicense.com/co/start.php

Go to bottom of page, click Start Now.
Confirm that you're a CO resident.
Enter your drivers license no. and follow the instructions.

For $10.25 you are supporting state wildlife management even if you do not
hunt or fish (although if you want to get licenses for those activities,
this is the place). IN ADDITION --and this is a second reason why I think
this stamp is a good investment -- you get Search & Rescue Coverage for the
year.

The older I get, the more I appreciate cheap insurance for risks incurred
during my activities in deserted places like the ones many of us are
exploring as we work on the Atlas Project. I think of an ultrarunning
acquaintance on a very long run outside of Durango who slipped and injured
herself very seriously during a canyon run a few years ago. She could not
crawl out (although she did crawl a mile or so!). Her dog eventually led
rescuers to her. Her rescue expenses were considerable. It can happen to any
of us, but-- knock on wood!

Be safe out there and have fun as the spring exploration season approaches.
