On my way home this evening I observed a Northern Goshawk perched high
in one of the trees along Bear Creek just below the Post Office in the
town of Morrison in Jefferson County. I believe the bird was a
subadult female - in addition to the black auricular patch contrasting
with the white supercilium, the white underparts were coarsely
barred. Because of the way the bird was perched, I could not see the
upperparts, but the undertail appeared to have equal width dark bands
and appeared sort of wedge shaped.
