Araphoe County:
--A Sage Sparrow was reported by Bierling by the beach and boat ramp on the SW
side of Cherry Creek on March 20.
Boulder County:
--A first year Harris's Sparrow was reported by Floyd at Greenlee Preserve in
Lafayette on March 25.
Broomfield County:
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Wild on Lowell Blvd just north of 144th
on March 23. It was at the 3rd house north of 144th.
Chaffee County:
--A m Barrow's Goldeneye was reported by Luck at Sand Lake SWA on March 20.
Clear Creek County:
--A female American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Walker near the
parking lot on Guanella Pass on March 22.
Delta County:
--7 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Garrison at Confluence Park in Delta
on March 17.
Denver County:
--A pair of Barrow's Goldeneyes was reported by Henwood along the S. Platte
River just north of the bridge on W. Evans Ave on December 14. On March 25,
Thornton-Kolbe reported that the male Barrow's Goldeneye was north of the
Florida Bridge.
Douglas County:
--A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by R. Taylor west of
Sedalia on Hwy 67 just east of Rampart Range Road on March 21.
Douglas/Jefferson Counties:
--A Sage Sparrow was reported by Walbek at the Swim Beach at Chatfield State
Park on March 19. Lawrence reported that the Sage Sparrow continues to be
seen at the Swim Beach on March 21.
El Paso County:
--A couple of Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Jeff Jones at Big Johnson on
March 20.
Fremont County:
--Rich Miller reported that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW and 2 Rufous-crowned
Sparrows were seen at Tunnel Drive on March 20.
Garfield County:
--50+ Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by McConnell at the Ranch at Roaring
Fork on March 20.
Jefferson County:
--A f Rusty Blackbird was reported by Keithler on February 23 on the Wheat
Ridge Greenbelt west of Youngfield. Wild reported seeing the male Rusty
Blackbird on March 23. There is a parking lot off of Youngfield between 38th
and 44th Ave. Walk west on the bike path under I-70 and start looking for the
orange cone. Thanks to Dick Schottler and Glenn Walbek for the parking
information.
--A Juniper Titmouse was reported at the Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch on March 6
by Luper and Clark. Wild reported the Juniper Titmouse just south of the
Hawkhawk station on March 23.
--A juv GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was reported by Brown behind the Trading Post at
Red Rocks on December 19. The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was see by Wild on March
23.
--On the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt a male Barrow's Goldeney has been reported: by
King on the west end of Tabor Lake on March 7; by Henwood on Prospect Lake on
March 8; by Deininger on a small pond east of West Lake on March 14; and by Bob
Spencer on Bass Pond on March 22 with a female nearby; and a pair of Barrow's
Goldeneyes was reported by Wild on March 23 on Bass Lake.
Larimer County:
--A pair of White-winged Crossbills was reported by Leatherman in Grandview
Cemetery in Fort Collins on November 22. Leatherman reported on March 8 the
White-winged Crossbill pair were observed mating. On March 25, Leatherman
reported that the pair continue their nesting activities. He -- gathering
seeds for the family and she guarding the nest.
Mesa County:
--2 Tundra Swans were reported by Arnold at Highline State Park on March 17.
Montrose County:
--Dexter reported that 2 Black Phoebes have returned to
the Uravan bridge on March 21.
Pitkin County:
--A few Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches including 2 Hepburns were reported by Filby
at Snowmass Ski Area at the top of the Sam's Knob on March 20.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, March 27 will be to Bear Creek Lake Park led
by Mike Henwood (303-716-8551). Meet the leader at 0800 at the entrance the
the Park (Se corner of C-470 at Morrison Road). This is a half-day trip with
easy hiking on some uneven trails. Bring water, snacks and dress for
unpredictable spring foothills weather.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, March 28 will be to Fountain Creek Regional Park
led by Sue Schulman (303-773-3540). Meet the leader at 0800 at the Park
Visitors' Center: From I-25, take exit 132A (Mesa Ridge Parkway). Drive under
overpass and turn right on Mesa Ridge Parkway through construction zone. Drive
a short way to (sign) to first right turn which is Hwy 85. Take Hwy 85 and
follow it around to the entrance at Cattail Marsh. After lunch will head to
Big Johnson Reservoir. Full day trip. Bring lunch, water and a scope and
radio if you have them. Please call Sue to register and to arrange carpools.
