The Bald Eagles are still here, at least a couple matures are. I haven't seen
the juveniles for a while. They are busy fishing the lake and leaving fish
scraps (and sometimes whole fish) behind in all of our yards. At this time, I
rarely see both adults together. But there are definitely two different adults
here. My hens are still all intact. (smile). The owners of the lake who keep it
stocked with fish, are less amused.

I have a pair of pheasants in my field as well as a few chukkas (not unusual as
the hunt club up the road raises both and there are frequent escapes). Also, at
certain times of the day, the lake is full of water fowl, pelicans, and gulls.
I've been ill, and unable to get to the northwest shore to get a closer look as
to what they are. Nothing unusual at my feeder, House sparrows and finches,
Gold Finches, Juncos, and Blue Jays. I think a pair of Kestrels are setting up
housekeeping in one of my trees. If they are successful, it will be the first
time in a several years I've known of a nest near my house. Of course the
Starlings and Red-winged Blackbirds are here as well.

The slough on WCR 5 near the intersection of (north of) Hwy 66 (behind the old
Liberty Hall Grange building) has a lot of birds on the water. This is private
land although the open water is not that far from the road. With a pair of
binoculars or a scope you should be able to get a good view.

Highland Lake is private, although it is open to the public. This time of the
year, unless you are wanting to fish or boat, there shouldn't be a charge to
park or picnic. If you want to combine a free tour of the historic church or
cemetery, just shoot me an email and I can arrange it.
