Today I found a new and distinctive probable Black X Eastern hybrid phoebe
near Canon City on private property.  This phoebe has dark brown to charcoal
upperparts and white belly separated by a inverted 'V' (since it's feathers
were ruffled I can't tell how much that separation fits a 'V').  However, it
has  bright brown, close to rusty, forehead plumage.  Though I have seen
several probable hybrid phoebes over the past 10 or so years, I have never
seen one with such an unusual forehead patch.  It called only once giving a
'tseep' call that sounds like those from Black Phoebes.   It was fairly shy
so I was unable to photograph it at closer range or better light but the
photos I got were pretty good.  I have uploaded them to my blog at
