Hi Birders,
Got in a decent morning of banding before the cold, wind and rain took over.
18 new birds plus 2 returns from prior years. We particularly enjoyed 3 lovely
Violet-green Swallows, 2 males and a female.
Breakdown for the day:
Dusky Flycatcher 3
Violet-green Swallow 3
Black-capped Chickadee 1 banded 4/26/09
House Wren 3
European Starling 1
Yellow Warbler 3 new, 1 banded 5/14/07
Common Yellowthroat 1
Spotted Towhee 1
White-crowned Sparrow 1
House Finch 2
Several of you have e-mailed me for directions to the banding station: Go to
the Audubon Nature Center parking lot. (From C470 & Wadsworth Blvd., go south
on Wadsworth about 4.4 miles. Turn left on Waterton Road. Immediately turn left
into the first parking lot at the Audubon Center sign.) The path to the
station starts at the far north end of the parking lot. Walk more or less
east, staying to the right of the restrooms and then the pond. When you reach
the far east end of the pond where the trail splits, stay on the trail as it
goes to the right. The “station” is the 2 picnic tables in a big, open, fenced
area (enter through the gate, which is unlocked when the station is open.)
We will be closed Wed-Sat. Starting Sun, we will be open every day through
Memorial Day, weather permitting, 7 a.m. to about noon, later if lots of birds.
The last 2 weeks should be good birds and good weather, so come visit!
