Birding over the week-end revealed a latish male Common Goldeneye and 4 Snowy Egrets. I spotted a White-winged Dove on a power line over H115 between Canon City and Florence. White-winged Doves seem to be moving around the Canon City area as I found one in Florence just over a week ago and one east of Florence at a ranch last week.
I was successful in refinding the probable Black X Eastern Phoebe fledglings on their 2nd day off the nest--I was surprised to find them moved to about 500 feet from the nest site. I wasn't able to look again on the 3rd day off the nest but did on the 4th day--I was able to refind them at about 600 feet from the nest site but hidden across a rapidly flowing creek (and 30 feet below the cliff on which I was perched) and behind thick riparian vegetation--I did hear them calling and also saw the parent birds bringing food to the location where the calls were coming from. I have some photos from the first and second day fledged but still fighting with my software. FYI for those who enjoy birding in the Chiricahua Mountains in SE Arizona--there is a big wildfire burning about 5 miles from Portal, Ariz http://www.kvoa.com/news/horseshoe-fire-grows-to-1600-acres/ (have to put up with an ad in order to see the newscast).
