It is with their permission that I add this, for those who are
interested:

Posted by: "Polly Neldner" from here in La Veta, Huerfano County

We started the day by driving to the Huerfano County Airstrip, hoping
for a Burrowing Owl or 2. Did not find them there but did see:
Eastern Kingbird
Western Kingbird
Cave Swallows
Scaled Quail (a bit unusual for here)
Mountain Bluebird
Western Meadowlark
Horned Lark
Red-tailed Hawk
American Kestral

At Lake Maria we saw nothing but Clark's and Western Grebes

We ended up at Apishapa State Wildlife Area in Las Animas County where
we:
Finally found that Burrowing Owl...without a prairie-dog in sight!
Cassin's Kingbird
Northern Mockingbird
Cliff Swallows
Great Crested Flycatcher a pair
Western Meadowlark
Horned Lark (all over everywhere)
Pronghorn (I know not a bird, but fun to see)
13 striped Ground Squirrel (still fun to see)
Rock Wren
Western Scrub Jay
Lark Sparrows
