I had a lucky encounter with a N. Pygmy-Owl at a private residence
west of Boulder yesterday morning. Well. . . I consider any encounter
with an owl a bit of luck. A pair of frantic Western Bluebirds (using
a sharp warning note I had not heard before) were carefully mobbing
"the tiger in a teacup" from about 8 feet away and from the top of a
ponderosa pine, while the owl perched in lower branches. A male Broad-
tailed Hummingbird got right in the owl's face. Who says male hummers
don't have any responsibilities?!

I got some snapshots of the owl and posted them here:

Good birding,
