06/09/10 Cobirders An easily viewed Great Blue Heron nest on the island in Tabor Lake in the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt has five young ranging from the largest one close to fledging to the smallest [viewed 06/08/10]. Very photogenic.. The nest is in a small tree at the tip of the island. A second nest higher up has three young with one about ready for fledging. Tabor Lake is reached by walking about a half-mile on the paved bike path along the north side of Clear Creek that takes off from the Prospect Park parking lot. The turnoff to Prospect Park is on 44th Avenue west of Kipling in Wheat Ridge. This site is part of the RMBO Great Blue Heron Colony Watch that I started about eight years ago.
