Hi all: I spent about an hour at the Holcim Wetlands east of Florence, Fremont Co., CO, this afternoon in hopes of seeing the previously reported Tricolored Heron. It was not to be, but I did score a first Fremont and third Colorado record Roseate Skimmer (a male; http://www.flickr.com/photos/tony_leukering/4713222734/). The only two other records come from quite disparate counties -- Baca and Larimer, with the record from the latter being found by David Leatherman a few years back (hopefully, he'll correct me if I got anything wrong). The skimmer spent the few minutes that it was in view patrolling quite actively along the southern edge of the marsh, but then vanished to parts unknown. 'Twas hard to photograph, but I got one reasonable flight shot and one distant perched shot and that was all he wrote.
