Late afternoon yesterday (6/20) I was driving by the outlet at Blue Mesa
Reservoir (Gunnison County) when I saw a loon, so I pulled off at the first
pulloff east of the east bridge at the eastern end of the reservoir. When I got
it in my scope I realized it was a YELLOW-BILLED LOON in Basic Plumage. I took
some pictures of it in bad light and one of them was identifiable. The photo
can be viewed at http://www.pbase.com/image/125806996. I am curious how many
inland summer records in the lower 48 there are for this species?
There was also a female Red-breasted Merganser at the same location.
