Hello, Birders.

A few birds from around Boulder County earlier this morning, Saturday, June
26th:

* At St. Vrain Crossing, a constantly singing and foraging Red-eyed Vireo. An
unmated male, I would say. The bird was working the little grove of trees near
40.195753N, 105.206752W. (This is the place that hosted the problematic Winter
Wren or Winter Wrens in late 2009.)

* At Rabbit Mountain, with Rolf Hertenstein and Emily Walker, a singing male
Orchard Oriole and a singing hybrid Passerina bunting. Based on phenotype, the
bunting was at least 50% Indigo, but it had some Lazuli parentage, too. Rock
Wrens are nesting near the trailhead, and Blue Grosbeaks are all over the
place. Also, there were at least 4 Common Poorwills up in the hills, predawn.
And here's an irony: The idea was to get there before sunup and to hear all the
night-singing passerines inspired by the full moon; well, the moon was full,
but skies were overcast and...there was a lunar eclipse. So Rolf and Emily and
I enjoyed a strange, overcast early morning out there.
