Emily and I were lucky enough to see a fledgling Boreal Owl on a short hike from Piney Lake (north of Vail) yesterday. We were about a mile up the trail.
Time was around 330 pm; the bird was sleeping in an aspen branch not 75' off the trail, facing us but with head turned 180 degrees away. When we went around to view it from another angle, it woke, faced us, yawned, then dozed off again. The sighting sure made our day!
