Last night as a thunder storm blew into Canon City I looked up and saw a
very large aggregation of Turkey Vultures,at least 70 or 80, riding the
strong winds of this quickly moving storm. These vultures were moving so
fast with the storm that I didn't have time to do even a ten-sy count and
had to give a rough estimate. I haven't seen any large numbers of vultures
in my area, certainly never anything this large. I wonder if this group
just kept picking up more vultures as they saw their cohorts riding the
storm and decided to join them. They may have had a wild ride as there was
a lot of turbulence in this storm. I wonder if they often get hit by cloud
to could lightening--it would certainly be shocking if you were standing on
the ground near where one fell out of the sky after being hit.
