A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers, including a male and a  female 
or juvenile, were observed on the Gore Range Trail to Boulder Lake at  1:30 
PM, Tuesday, July 27, 2010.  Photographs are available.
 
Location/directions:
 
Follow Highway 9, 7.3 miles north of Silverthorne, left on Rock Creek Road  
(across from Blue River Campground), 3 miles to Rock Creek trailhead  
parking.  After walking trail for .4 mile, turn right onto Gore Range Trail  
toward Boulder Lake.
 
The birds were seen on beetle-damaged trees to the left of the trail, 1.86  
miles from the parking area.  GPS Coordinates: N39 43.006, W106  10.978.  
Elevation: 10,009 ft.  A single Golden-crowned  Kinglet also was observed at 
the same time at the same area, within a  small flock of Mountain Chickadees.
