Jason Beason dragged me out of bed waaaay too early this morning on a quest for
cuckoos (other than ourselves, specifically). We wandered down to Andrea's
house, where we got a chance to visit and watch the cooper's hawk fledges and
the profusion of hummers before (and after) Larry showed up.

We managed to not find cuckoos, but did find mosquitoes, at one location along
the river near Hotchkiss. At the second spot, a cuckoo popped right up in
front of us and sat in a dead tree for almost ten minutes, letting us all have
good looks, and letting Jason record a profusion of calls. All was right with
the world, except for the 0500 wakeup call.

I posted two photos of the cuckoo at my photobucket page 1 2

No black-hawk this morning.

Happy birding. If you want a more specific location, contact Jason.
