COBirders,

I made a quick stop at Big Johnson reservoir today and had the following things
of note:

3 Sanderlings
~10 sterna Tern with a mix of both Common and Forster's
2 Black Terns

There were also a number of other shorebirds littered around the reservoir that
were mostly too far away to identify. The other thing that made things
interesting were the number of sparrows moving through. I do not have much of
a count as it was almost a continuous flow of them the whole time I was there.
Savannah and Vesper were definitely the two most abundant (nothing short of 50
apiece), but also a few Chipping and Brewers Sparrows, Lark Buntings, McCown's
(4 or 5) and Chestnut-collared Longspurs (at least 3). Hundreds of Horned
Larks were scattered about around the lake shore.

Yesterday evening there was an alternate plumaged Lesser Black-backed Gull that
came in at the very end of the day to roost presumably. A lot of the gulls go
off to a dump that is southeast of Big Johnson and mostly use the reservoir as
a place to loaf. Although, I did watch a Ring-billed Gull snag a crayfish in
shallow water today.
