I made a quick stop at Turkey Creek Ranch this morning and saw at
least 8 Lewis Woodpeckers in the picnic area alone. My question is:
does anyone have any idea why there are so many of these relatively
rare for Colorado birds concentrated in this area? I wonder if the
large forest fire that occurred on Fort Carson adjacent to the ranch
about a year and a half ago has anything to do with it. I welcome any
ideas.
