I saw an adult Red-headed Woodpecker at one of the ponds in Fountain Creek Regional Park in Aug or Sep last year. What a complete shock since I hadn't heard of them being this far west. But, I didn't have access to a computer at that time and didn't get it posted.....sorry. The first Red-headed's I saw was at Bonny Reservior in 2005. Bonny seemed to be the border between east and west birds with such an abundance of both in 2005.....many lifers on that trip. Now, it seems that they are definitely further into Colorado, as I saw several Red-headed's on a birding trip to a ranch in northern Colorado in 2008, I believe.

They are not listed as rarities but this is the first time I have seen one in Colorado. http://avoapples.com/birds/IMG_2506_4x6.jpg Bill Kosar [email protected] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
