Not much going on in the bird department; I've been working on my pond. Did get a salamander the first day I put water in it, though! ...and big ol' dragonflies love it.
Today I was out soaking the small shrubs and plants I intend to put around the hill where the waterfall starts...and turned to watch a female Black-chinned Hummingbird feed on the red, tubular 'hummingbird' plants I bought (http://www.laspilitas.com/nature-of- california/plants/zauschneria-latifolia (a xeric, mountain fuchsia!) ) I know she was a Black-Chinned by the way she pumped her tail...constantly. Sweet! I read Dave Silverman's Calendar for SoCo...and see she was just a couple days short of the (late) record. I've put fish in the pond (pretty little 'feeder-fish')...and believe there are a couple already missing. I hope this means the Kingfishers have been visiting my new bird-feeder!
